[2009 Golden Globes] SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE!

After seeing the results of the 2009 Golden Globe Awards, I immediately dismissed the TV section and focused on these three things: Kate Winslet winning both Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress for her performances in Revolutionary Road and in The Reader, respectively, Heath Ledger winning a posthumous Best Supporting Actor for his role as The Joker in Christopher Nolan’s film, The Dark Knight, and the award sweep by the Danny Boyle film, Slumdog Millionaire, which won for Best Picture (Drama), Best Director, Best Screenplay and, I believe it was Best Original score.

After winning four awards I became even more excited to finally watch that film. It’s not just because of Dev Patel — although his performance as Anwar Kharral as a randy Muslim boy in my favourite show, the British teen series  Skins was a plus — but the strong critical acclaim and reviews made me want to see it so bad. I made it my goal to watch Slumdog Millionaire as soon as possible. Now that I have, I’m not surprised it won so many Golden Globe Awards, in addition to winning Critics Choice awards and earning eleven nominations for this year’s BAFTAs. Watching Dev Patel’s performance as Jamal Malik was a touching experience, and I wish this film well for the upcoming BAFTAs and Oscars.
